Many people successfully lose weight and find a few areas or pockets of fat that just won’t go away no matter the degree of dieting or exercise. These pockets of fat can either be removed through plastic surgery or via non-surgical methods such HIFU and HIFEM.

What is HIFU?

HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) is a non-surgical treatment that shapes the body using high-intensity focused ultrasound to disrupt fat cells transdermally.

High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) destroys localized fat, melting it away with some people attaining a measurable 1-3” waistline reduction after just 1 procedure.

How does it work?

HIFU works by focusing high-intensity ultrasonic waves at the level of the subcutaneous adipose tissue, causing focal coagulative necrosis with contraction and thickening of adjacent collagen bundles while sparing the overlying tissue.

In what situations do we use HIFU?

We use HIFU for:

  • Fat reduction
  • Body sculpting

What areas can be treated with HIFU?

Areas that can be treated include:

  • Abdominal flanks (Love handles)
  • Thighs (Saddlebags – outer and inner)
  • Buttocks
  • Face
  • Upper arms
  • Waist
  • Back folds (Bra line)
  • Hips (Saddlebags)

What are the side effects and when do we expect to see results?

This treatment is painless with no downtime, no risk of infection, and no inconvenience yet very effective. Most patients will require at least 5 procedures to appreciate the results though a few patients can see visible results after just one treatment. People with larger fat deposits will require more treatments for appreciable results.

We encourage patients to drink a lot of water and exercise after the procedure to further enhance the lymphatic drainage and excretion of the waste fat.

What is HIFEM?

High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Energy (HIFEM) is intended for localized fat reduction and body contouring through neuromuscular stimulation and increase of blood flow to the treated areas.

How does it work?

HIFEM uses non-invasive high-energy focused electromagnetic technology to stimulate the motor neurons of
the body muscles through the energy output from the electromagnetic field and triggers the muscles to
undergo high frequency super contraction.

This contraction causes the growth of myofibrils (muscle
enlargement) and the production of new collagen chains and muscle fibers (muscle hyperplasia). The
contractions consume a lot of energy triggering a reasonable amount of fat to breakdown, resulting in not
only muscle definition but fat loss as well.

What areas can be treated with HIFEM?

Areas that can be treated include:

  • The abdomen including diastasis recti in post-partum women.
  • The gluteal/buttocks muscles.
  • The biceps muscles, triceps muscles.
  • The thighs
  • The calves

What are the side effects and when do we expect to see results?

This treatment is painless with no downtime, no utilization of heating/cooling, so there is no risk of burns, scars or swelling, no risk of infection and no inconvenience yet effective.

  • The muscles will feel sore after treatment, which is a reflection of normal muscle exercise. Soreness usually stops in 1 to 3 days.

Patients with a higher BMI and those that haven’t exercised in a while could need more than the 6 recommended sessions.

Results start to be very evident 2-4 weeks after treatment. The best results will be seen after 3 months and will continue to improve after six months.

Additional treatments at intervals of 2-3 months will help maintain results of toned muscles.
