What are Botox Injections?
BOTOX® ,Xeomin, Dysport are brand names of a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
They are approved for the treatment of frown lines on the forehead, crow’s feet (lines around the eye), and wrinkles.
How does it work?
Botulinum toxin blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscles.The injected muscle can no longer contract (tighten) forcefully, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften.
How is the procedure performed?
Prior to the procedure, a topical anesthetic is applied to minimize discomfort. Afterwards, BOTOX® is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles.
The procedure takes only a few minutes and It generally takes 3 to 7 days, but sometimes even as long as 2 weeks, to take full effect.
There is no downtime.
What are the side effects?
The common side effects of botox include discomfort, redness, swelling and bruising at the injection points.However this subside in about 24-48 hours.
